Molly Butcher was born in California on the 17th of May in 1986, just three years before the Loma Prieta earthquake and thirty years before today. She grew up barefoot in her backyard, digging ditches and collecting tadpoles.

In 2010 she received a BA in Fine Art from Stanford University. More recently, she spent one year living and working in the arts Berlin before spending two years touring the Western United States, mountain biking, and checking out farmers markets and heirloom apples. She had been in New York ever since, working in art and technology and starting her own digital strategy consulting firm, before enrolling in the SVA Design Research Program in 2014.

In her evenings, she writes letters to her family and non-narrative science fiction about terraforming Mars. On her weekends, and in life, she aims to be outside and to swim in as many bodies of water as humanly possible.
